Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has promised improvements in his side’s defensive record in the second half of the season. The Reds have been unusually poor at the back for periods of the Premier League season so far and also saw sloppy defending against Lyon and Fiorentina contribute to their Champions League exit.
Benitez told Liverpool’s official website, "Improving the defence needs hard work. But when you do your job every day on the pitch and in every training session, you see an improvement. That’s what we’re doing at the moment."
With Liverpool battling to remain part of the Premier League’s lucrative top four, Benitez once again assured fans that the team is improving, thanks in no part to the return of players from injury, and sent out a warning to the rest of the division.
"We have some players coming back from injury and if we can keep the majority of the players fit then we can beat anyone. The last two wins in the league means this is a team coming back."
