Togo could yet still play in the African Nations Cup, despite their government wanting the team to withdraw. Reports from Angola suggest that the Togo team have re-thought their decision not to go on and now wish to take to the pitch.

A CAF (Confederation of African Football) spokesman informed the press that the player had expressed their wish to play and his understanding was that they wanted to do this to "honour the dead".

Togo midfielder Alaixys Romero told French newspaper L’Equipe, "People died for this tournament. Others were injured. We can’t abandon them and leave like cowards."

With the Togo government still officially calling the team home it seems the next hours will be crucial in seeing whether the country do indeed continue in the Nations Cup.
