Liverpool fans are calling for club owners Tom Hicks Sr. and George Gillett Jr., to put the club up for sale after Stephen Horner, a fan, was subject to abusive e-mails from Tom Hicks Jr. The co-owner’s son had received an inquiry from Horner regarding an article stating Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez was not allowed to reinvest proceeds from four planned sales during the January transfer window, and had replied using explicit language.

Horner said in The Times, “Hicks Jr should resign with immediate effect and it is time that Gillett and Hicks sold up and handed the reins over to people who understand the Liverpool way. They are not welcome at Anfield and should name their price and begin negotiations with more suitable investors who can take this great club forward.”

Hicks Jr has since admitted to sending the e-mails and has apologised to Horner saying, “I apologise for losing my temper and using bad language with you. It was a kneejerk reaction.” Despite the attempt to ease tensions, fans have been left fuming at such behaviour from one of the club’s hierarchy.
