UEFA’s official website reports Vagif Dzavadov, Azerbaijan’s Player of the Year, has joined Steve McClaren’s FC Twente on a three-and-a-half year contract. The player impressed the English manager when Twente faced off against the 20-year-old’s former club FK Qarabag in the Europa League.

Dzavadov, a product of the CSKA Moscow youth system, moved back to his native Azerbaijan in 2007 to play under Gurban Gurbanov, the country’s record goal scorer. Despite being very young, he is already the country’s first-choice striker in the senior national team with 24 caps to his name.

Dzavadov joins an FC Twente squad that has blossomed under McClaren, who took over in 2008 after a disastrous spell as England manager. The club finished second in his first year in charge, and is in pole position to win the Eredivisie this season, maintaining an unbeaten record 17 games into the campaign.
