Although Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has nothing but praise for Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, he has rubbished reports suggesting he has made a bid for the 28-year-old, who he handled during his stint with the Latics.
“Talk of me bidding £5 million for Chris Kirkland is garbage but he is a very good goalkeeper and I’m a big, big admirer of him," Bruce told the Sunderland Echo. “What I will say is that we’re working on one or two things and hopefully we can see them progress."
Kirkland, who was once understudy to Liverpool’s then first-choice goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek, has suffered from an injury-blighted career, something that he has seemed to have overcome lately, having played all but one game for Wigan this season so far.
