Liverpool’s commercial director, Ian Ayre, has revealed the club are aiming to sell naming rights to the new stadium that is scheduled to start construction in April. The Merseyside club are desperate to raise extra revenue in any way they can, and are looking to top the £100M Arsenal made by naming their new stadium “The Emirates”.
"It is an area that some of our competitors have dabbled – Arsenal for example – and it is an opportunity for us to step forward,” Ayre said in ESPN Soccernet. “But what is important again is to find the right partner, who offers the right cultural fit. Who knows who that would be for Liverpool, but we have had some interest certainly."
A move to a new stadium, and the subsequent demolition of Anfield, where Liverpool currently play their home football, has been received with mixed emotions by the Reds fans, who are not too keen to leave the historic ground opened in 1884.
