Free agent Sol Campbell, who has been training with Arsenal since his departure from League Two side Notts County, is set to rejoin the Gunners senior side he left in 2006 to join Portsmouth. The 35-year-old, who was part of “The Invincibles” of 2003/04, came through unscathed in a reserves match against West Ham on Tuesday night and has revealed he has agreed to join Arsene Wenger’s side until the end of the season.
Campbell expressed his delight at being back at his former club, saying in The Guardian, "There are still a few technicalities to iron out, but I have signed for Arsenal until the end of the season, and it’s fantastic, great, marvellous. The old enthusiasm is back. I’ve got to tell you it seems as though I have never been away. I’m ecstatic really to be back at Arsenal, and I have worked bloody hard to get there."
The former England centre-back’s return to Arsenal will surely be greeted with plenty of enthusiasm by the club’s faithful, who witnessed Campbell win two Premier League titles and three FA Cup trophies during his stint with the side.
