Aston Villa manger Martin O’Neill has expressed his disappointment at the possibility of Craig Gardner leaving. The player, who has just been subject of a failed bid from Birmingham City, is still expected to leave the club in search of regular first-team football before the transfer window closes
“I know Craig wants to play,” O’Neill told Press Association Sport. “In an ideal world, I would love to keep him. He is as genuine as they come. I would be sorry to see Craig go but I accept the fact if two clubs agree a fee, that he would probably go. Birmingham have made a bid and, as it stands, it hasn’t been accepted.”
Birmingham City are expected to make an improved bid for the 23-year-old after their initial bid on Sunday was rejected by Villa.
