After suffering a knee injury in Fulham’s defeat to Blackburn on Sunday, scans have shown Clint Dempsey will not be out for as long as originally feared. This news comes as a real boost for his club and country, USA, who both benefit from the 26-year-old’s attacking prowess.

"The news about Clint’s injury is positive, especially given the fact that he will not require surgery," said USA’s coach Bob Bradley in The Guardian. "We are confident that Clint will be ready to be an important part of our team during the World Cup."

Dempsey is expected to return before the Premier League season ends in May. His right knee, which was initially feared torn, has sustained only moderate damage and will not require surgery.
