Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has publicly stated his desire to acquire out-of-favour midfielders Fernando Gago or Mathieu Flamini, of Real Madrid and AC Milan respectively. The latter was heavily linked with a move earlier in the week, and interest looks set to continue as Mancini aims to bolster his midfield.

"I need players," he told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I hope that Vieira is fit [for the second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final]. Perhaps Real Madrid will give me Gago, maybe Milan will give me Flamini."

Despite Man City’s mega-rich status, it is believed the club are not keen to spend largely in the January transfer window, and are looking to seal only a loan deal for either Gago or former Arsenal player Flamini.
