Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has been handed a significant boost with news that Steven Gerrard will be fit to train at the weekend. The influential skipper missed Wednesday’s win over Tottenham and the match against Stoke after straining his hamstring in the FA Cup defeat to Reading last week.

Although it was initially believed the midfield maestro would be out for at least two weeks, his recovery, according to the Liverpool Echo, has progressed much faster than expected.

Gerrard is unlikely to feature in Liverpool’s next outing against Wolves in midweek however, with a return against Bolton a more likely option. The return of the 29-year-old will surely lift the spirits of the Reds who, after their win over Tottenham are right back in the thick of the battle for fourth spot.
