Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is expected to make a decision within the week regarding which club he will transfer to, has been subject of an offer from West Ham United. The club who have successfully been taken over by former Birmingham owner David Sullivan and David Gold are prepared to offer £100,000 a week to the former Manchester United standout.

"We’ve offered £100,000 a week to a player today and we are still not sure we are going to get him," Sullivan told BBC Radio 5 live. "That was a very special player. There’s no transfer fee involved and he’s got the choice of almost every club in Europe. He has played at the highest level."

Despite publicly lambasting the former West Ham owner for leaving the club in such a dire financial situation, the move for van Nistelrooy clearly expresses the new regime’s intent to break the bank should it mean a quick climb from the relegation scrap and an assurance of Premier League football for next season.
