After an initial offer was rebuffed by Aston Villa, Birmingham have secured the services of Craig Gardner. The 23-year-old midfielder has been a supporter of the Blues since his childhood, and will now realise the dream of playing for them after agreeing a £3M deal.
Manager Alex McLeish expressed his delight at finally acquiring Gardner, whom he rates very highly. Speaking to the club’s official website, he said, “Craig is a versatile and dynamic player who can perform in a number of positions. Players like that are really worth their weight in gold.”
Gardner, a product of the Aston Villa youth academy, made 74 appearances in four-and-a-half seasons with the Villains. The Englishman’s lack of first-team action this season has forced him to look for greener pastures, and high-flying Birmingham have been quick to snap him up.
