With African Cup of Nations pre-tournament favourites Ivory Coast, crashing out of the competition, Chelsea can welcome prolific striker Didier Drogba back to the squad. His absence however, didn’t make as much of an impact as first expected. In Daniel Sturridge and Nicolas Anelka, the Blues found more than enough firepower as the team thumped home a total of 16 goals in their last four games.
Assistant coach Ray Wilkins has been delighted with the output of his strikers, saying to the Premier League’s official website, “From our perspective Nicolas is playing some outstanding football. He is working extremely hard and he is getting the rewards from that. We are pleased with Danny. He has a lot of talent and is working extremely hard. For young players at Chelsea it is really difficult to get past the likes of Nicolas and Didier (Drogba). But he is looking a good player."
Despite the absence of key players, Chelsea remain in a healthy position to win the league. They are currently third, two points behind leaders Manchester United, but with two games in hand.
