Despite Manchester City star Robinho expressing his intention to leave the club to return to Santos, Roberto Mancini has declared his desire to keep the Brazilian at Eastlands. The former Real Madrid standout has found appearances hard to come by since his return to injury, and is intent to return to his homeland to boost his World Cup credentials.
Speaking to the British press Mancini said, “Hopefully in the end Robinho will stay here. In the next day the situation can change but at the moment he stays here and I am very happy with him. I think one player can stay in a squad only if he is happy – if he wants to play every game and if he wants to work every day.”
After an impressive first season in the Premier League following his mega-transfer from Real Madrid, the 26-year-old has faded into the shadows considerably this campaign. Robinho has made just seven appearances so far, and is unhappy with his constant presence on the bench.
