Robert Pires, who has been subject to plenty of speculation regarding a move to his native France, has revealed he would have no qualms extending his contract with Villarreal. The former Arsenal player, who is now 36 years old, believes his age has proven the only stumbling block in his possible extension.

"I’ll be honest, nobody in Paris called me. I know they want a left-sided midfielder and if interested, they know where to find me. But I’m not asking either. And I never said I wanted to finish my career in France,” Pires said in L’Equipe. He also added why he felt the negotiations are taking longer than expected, claiming "They’re stuck on my age."

The World Cup winner and former Marseille man has made just 13 appearances so far this season, and has been made to be content with a place on the substitutes’ bench more often.
