Villarreal have parted company with coach Ernesto Valverde following the club’s 2-0 weekend loss to Osasuna. The Yellow Submarines endured a difficult start to the season, even languishing in the relegation zone for a time, but Valverde had managed to guide them up the table.
Sitting 9th, Villarreal are lying 10 points behind the Champions League places and the club’s board no longer thought Valverde was capable of bridging that gap.
The La Liga club are believed to want to appoint Michael Laudrup in the long term, but at present reports indicate that B team coach Juan Carlos Garrido will step up.
