With more than 20 officials, players and club managers being detained or arrested in the last couple of months for alleged match-fixing, the Asian Football Confederation is seriously monitoring the unfortunate and embarrassing situation of Chinese football.

The continental governing body released a statement on Tuesday, saying, "AFC has always taken a very strong stance against match-fixing. This is a disease that needs to be cured with strict sanctions along with educational programmes. AFC will continue to monitor the situation in China and await the results of the [police] investigation."

Included in those arrested were former Chinese Football Association head Nan Yong, and his former deputy Yang Yimin, who are both part of committees in the AFC.
