At 31 years old, former Leeds United star Harry Kewell is considered a cult hero by the Galatasaray faithful. In his second season with the Turkish side, he has already bagged 14 goals, two less than his total after five seasons with Liverpool. The Australian’s time at Anfield was largely disappointing, with an unfortunate run of injuries relegating him to extended spells on the sidelines. Kewell’s agent, Bernie Mandic, claims Liverpool were to blame for his client’s injury-stricken stint at the club.
"The reason he gets treated out here (Australia) now is because we have the best medical staff in the world," said Mandic in The Guardian. "He lost three and a half years of his career at Liverpool because the guys over there in England had, quite literally, no idea what they were talking about. You have to wonder what they’re doing over there. Perhaps they’re trying to protect their reputations, but they’re certainly not trying to protect their players."
Kewell is currently playing out the final six months of his contract at Galatasaray, and after successfully reviving his career, could be on his way back to the Premier League in the summer.
