According to Sunderland’s official website, Steed Malbranque has been cleared to continue playing after picking up nasty knock against Portsmouth. The crafty midfielder was substituted just before half-time with a chest injury and was immediately sent to a hospital for a check-up
The Belgian attacker was discharged in time to join his team-mates on a flight back to the North East of England, signs that the 30-year-old did not suffer any serious damage. He is expected to be under observation by Sunderland’s medical team, who will hope Malbranque is fit before their next game against Arsenal in two weeks.
After a promising start to the season, Sunderland’s form has considerably dropped. The club have now failed to win in the Premier League since beating Arsenal in November of last year.
