Dmytro Chygrynskiy has added to Barcelona’s defensive crisis, after the club confirmed the Ukranian will be out for about a week with a slight thigh tear. The centre-half felt discomfort in his left thigh during training on Tuesday, and the problem persisted on Wednesday, prompting the 23-year-old to have a series of scans.
Chygrynskiy’s injury comes at a very bad time for Barcelona, who are already without defensive players Dani Alves, Rafael Márquez, Gerard Piqué, Eric Abidal and Yaya Touré for the weekend’s match against Atletico Madrid.
The young defender has made 12 appearances for Barca since his summer move from Shakhtar Donetsk, and has just started make an impression with the club’s faithful. Should treatment go as planned, Chygrynskiy will be in line to make his return against Racing Santander.
Spurs have drawn four of their last seven games, throwing away an opportunity to solidify their Champions League qualification hopes. Their quest to break into the top four continues when they visit Wolverhampton tonight.
