Former Chelsea and Arsenal player Lassana Diarra has been a hit at Spanish giants Real Madrid since his transfer from Portsmouth in January of 2009. The tough-tackling midfielder has just returned from injury and is desperate to return to the first-team fold. Speaking to the club’s official website, Diarra expressed his appreciation for such high-level competition at his current club.

Big teams always have that competition. The manager has to make a choice when there are so many good players to choose from. You have to be fit and play at a high level all the time. It’s good for the team,” Diarra said. “Sometimes the players don’t want this kind of competition, but I think it is good for everyone because you work more and get better, and in the end everyone wins. It is good for everyone.”

Diarra has already equalled his total of last season with 21 appearances. At only 24-years-old, the Frenchman has a bright future in the middle of Real Madrid’s midfield.
