Portuguese defender Pepe has been out of action since he injured his knee in the middle of December, and was initially expected to be out for the rest of the season. Scans however, have shown that the 26-year-old is recovering quicker than expected, a return before the end of the campaign may be on the cards.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is one that has given me more courage in this process and almost every day he is asking how the knee motion is, whether or not it is inflamed," said Pepe to Spanish paper Marca regarding the support he is receiving in his battle against injury. "Hope is definitely something I will not lose, and I will continue to work to return to training as soon as possible," he said.

The former Porto centre-back made 18 appearances and was in fine form this season for Real Madrid before his unfortunate anterior cruciate ligament injury.
