Togo have appealed to the Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over their ban in the next two African Cup of Nations as imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The nation pulled out of the tournament in January after a fatal shooting incident left two members of their contingent dead.
“Government interference” is being cited by the CAF as their reason for the harsh penalty on the victimized nation. The African Cup of Nations organizers believed that the Togo players would have continued to compete in the tournament had they not called home by their Prime Minister.
A panel of lawyers have been put together by the interim committee running Togolese football, to find a way to have CAF eventually drop the ban that has added to their already painful experience.
