Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has told the club’s fans that talented youngster Dani Pacheco is getting closer and closer to earning himself a first start. The Spanish star has been amongst the substitutes for five out of Liverpool’s past seven games and it is clear Benitez rates the 19-year-old very highly.

Benitez told the club’s official site: "Dani [Pacheco] is continuing to train with the first team."

He went on: "Every day you are thinking about when you can play, he has been on the bench a lot and sometimes you are thinking when it might be right to put him on."

Pacheco has impressed Reds fans everywhere with a string of stunning displays for the club’s reserve side, leading many to question why, after the sale of Andriy Voronin, the Spanish youngster has not been more involved. But the day seems to be coming.

"It depends on the game" said Benitez, "but clearly if he continues to keep working as he has been doing he will definitely get his chance."
