Marouane Chamakh has, according to various reports, opted for a move to Arsenal when his current deal with Bordeaux expires.

The Gunners were battling against Premier League rivals Liverpool for the striker’s signature, but with Reds boss Rafael Benitez recently stating he thought it unlikely the club would sign Chamakh and reports suggesting Arsenal was the player’s preferred option, it seems Chamakh may go to London.

The Bordeaux forward has consistently stated that it is his intention to leave the Ligue 1 champions on a free transfer at the end of the season and Arsenal have put a four-year deal worth £10.4M in front of the player. Chamakh will be paid an estimated £2.5M per season, plus a hefty signing on fee and other bonuses.

Liverpool for their part recently concluded the pre-contract signing of Standard Liege striker Milan Jovanovic, beating several Spanish and Italian clubs to his signature.
