AC Milan’s on loan midfielder David Beckham has made no secret of his continued affection for his boyhood club Manchester United, despite leaving the Premier League champions for Real Madrid in 2003. But on Tuesday night, for the first time in his life, he will be hoping his beloved side falter.

I’m a fan of United, but for the first time in my life I will have to hope that they lose. I grew up in Manchester and stayed until the age of 27. I thought I would play with them forever,” Beckham said to UEFA.com  “Sir Alex Ferguson was like a father to me; even with the highs and lows I only have good memories of him. Many things will come to my mind at San Siro tomorrow night. I have so many memories of Manchester, nice ones.”

Beckham will not be certain to be involved from the get go however, facing competition from Gennaro Gattuso for a starting place in tonight’s Milan midfield.
