Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola has accepted an ambassador role for Qatar’s 2022 World Cup bid. The remarkable manager, who enjoyed an astounding record-breaking first season, spent some time playing for Al-Ahli Qatari from 2003 to 2005.
“Living there was a wonderful experience. They treated me very well and I felt very comfortable,” Guardiola said in his club’s official website. “It’s a country that is growing, with many choices and working hard to host the World Cup in all areas: transportation, weather, maximum comfort for the players.”
Spain are believed to be interested in hosting the World Cup in either 2018 or 2022 as well, with Guardiola understandably hoping his native country choose the former in order for him to be able to support both bids.
