Chelsea’s in form striker Didier Drogba is one of the last three being considered for the African Football Player of the Year award, and he has admitted that he would take great pleasure in winning the accolade. The Ivory Coast native once publicly withdrew from the running for future African Football Confederation (CAF) awards, but has stated he since rebuilt bridges.

That was the past,” Drogba said in an exclusive with Chelsea TV. “We all sat down and spoke about it – Mr Hayatou (the CAF president) and the people from the Ivory Coast Federation – so I think everything is good now. It is a good trophy and a big honour for a player to win it, especially this year which is so special for the African continent. To win it would be very nice.”

Drogba will be in competition with team-mate Michael Essien of Ghana, and Inter Milan Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o.
