USA international Charlie Davies has an eye on recovering from a deadly car crash in time for the World Cup in June. The 23-year-old, who plays for Ligue 1 side Sochaux, escaped the accident with severe injuries, but his friends were unfortunately not as lucky.
“Deep down, I’m thinking about the World Cup but I first want to return before the end of the season for Sochaux," Davies told reporters. "Bob Bradley told me to take my time. He knows that I still have some way to go.” Davies also admits the crash has changed him mentally, saying “I’m a new man who is asking himself a lot of questions. Why did I survive when my friends died in the accident? For three months, I couldn’t sleep as I asked myself this question day and night," he said. "Today, I’ve stopped questioning myself as I believe life has given me an opportunity."
Davies has scored four international goals in 16 appearances for the USA, and should he prove his fitness, would be a vital inclusion in the American side in the World Cup.
