Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini has warned his players that it is essential they defeat Villarreal later today in order to remain in the title hunt. Barcelona’s 4-0 crushing of Racing Santander last night moved the gap between the two up to five points and Pellegrini is in no doubt Real Madrid must keep winning.

The Spanish giants will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 Champions League loss to Lyon in midweek, and should La Liga prove beyond them then Europe’s showpiece trophy may be all that can save Pellegrini from the chop.

Villarreal for their part have moved back up the table following a terrible start to the season which saw them languishing in the relegation zone. The Yellow Submarine have still been far below their best this campaign though.
