Hull City, who were convincingly beaten by West Ham 3-0 at the weekend, are crossing their fingers that centre-back Anthony Gardner will not be out for too long with a leg injury. Although initial fears of a broken leg were quickly allayed, the defender could still be out for a long period should ligament damage be found after scans.
"The X-ray is clear so that is some kind of positive," manager Phil Brown said in the league’s official website. "But we will not know the extent of the injury until the swelling has gone down and we can have a scan. There was a lot of inflammation and until that has cleared up, we will have to keep our fingers crossed."
Hull will be hoping to do without losing Gardner for an extended period as they battle to remain in the Premier League. The Tigers are currently just one point above the drop zone, with the three teams under them having played a game less.
