After receiving plenty of criticism for their uninspired display against Lyon in midweek, Real Madrid responded in style with an emphatic victory over Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu. With such an impressive margin of victory, influential attacker Cristiano Ronaldo believes they have now truly left their heartache of France behind, and are ready for the second leg at home.
"The important thing about tonight’s match is that we won and that the fans had fun. We are all happy about it,” Ronaldo said to the media after his team’s scintillating display. “We had to respond and we did. This victory will help us gain confidence. I’m sure we will defeat Lyon."
Real will host the French giants on the 10th of March, and will have to reverse a 1-0 deficit to continue their dream to play in the Champions League final, which will be held in their home grounds.
