Arsenal whiz-kid Theo Walcott has found appearances hard to come by this season with injuries continuing to hamper his chances of a regular run in the side. The 20-year-old appeared to be a shoo-in for a spot in England’s World Cup squad, but with the lack of time on the pitch, he could find himself easily replaced by the likes of Aston Villa’s Stewart Downing or Ashley Young. The former Southampton starlet however, feels he is back to full fitness and is ready to make an extended run with his club.
"I feel fit as anything I’ve felt. I feel really good now so hopefully I can stay fit and look after myself. I’ve had such a stop-start season, I’ve lost so many games I’ve lost count,” Walcott said in his club’s official website. "But I should feel fresh, I felt fresh against Sunderland and the Stoke game isn’t until next weekend, so there’s plenty of time to recover and start again from there. It will be a difficult game but I do feel fresh.”
Walcott scored a hat-trick away to Croatia in September of 2008, leading many to believe his place in the England squad was cemented. Fitness has been an issue however, and should he fail to prove his health before June, the World Cup could pass by with Walcott a mere spectator.
