Aston Villa summer signing Stewart Downing claims his side’s FA Cup replay with Crystal Palace at Villa Park will be placed in high regard after the Championship club almost knocked out The Villains at Selhurst Park.

We’ve got a massive game against Crystal Palace and people will probably expect us to win,” Downing said to his club’s official website. “But we’ve seen how tough it was at Palace and we are lucky to still be in the tie because it was a late goal. I think we all knew in the dressing room that it would be a tough game."

Downing has recovered from injury and has enjoyed a bright start to his Villa career with three goals to his name already. The former Middlesbrough standout adds a real threat to Martin O’Neill’s side, which already boasts of impressive attackers Ashley Young, James Milner and Gabriel Agbonlahor.
