The intensity for the race for fourth place heats up as the four clubs vying for the final Champions League spot, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa, are all within a point of each other. Spurs have taken the initiative, currently sitting in the coveted position, having beaten Wigan convincingly at the weekend.
"It was a very important win for us," said Gomes to the club’s official website. "It’s a big week with Wigan, Bolton and Everton and when you win the first game like we did at Wigan it gives you a great feeling. It’s not an easy place to go, conditions were difficult but we were strong in every tackle, kept winning the ball and deserved the win."
Tottenham will face the tricky task of hosting high-flying Everton at the weekend, and will lock horns with fellow top four chasers Man City the week after.
