Atletico Madrid just about progressed into the last 16 of the Europa League, with substitute Diego Forlan breaking the hearts of Galatasaray by scoring the decisive goal with only seconds left in regulation. The match looked certain to go into extra-time, but the Uruguayan striker had other ideas, silencing the home crowd with an exquisite finish right at the death.

"It was a nice goal," the Forlan said after the match. "We needed to win and get through to the next stage. I’m really happy to have done it for the team. We played a really good game. We knew it was going to be very difficult here and we got through – so we’re really happy.”

Forlan has not enjoyed the type of form that has seen him become two-time European Golden Shoe winner this season, managing only 15 goals in 35 appearances for Atletico so far.
