Sunderland have failed to hit the heights that were expected of them, currently sitting precariously in 14th place in the Premier League, and with only three points more than Bolton Wanderers, who are in the relegation zone. There are those who suggest new manager Steve Bruce is to blame for the dismal form, but Darren Bent insists the squad is fully behind their boss.
"All the players are behind the manager 100 per cent," said Bent. "We know he’s the man to take us forward. We’d all like to be further up the league, but it shouldn’t be forgotten that it’s still early days for him and his team. At every club, the manager is the one who gets the stick, but it’s the players who have to perform on the pitch."
Sunderland face recent Europa League last 16 qualifers, Fulham, on Sunday, looking for their first league win since November, when they beat Arsenal.
