36-year-old former Real Madrid and Chelsea player Claude Makelele, has hinted at a possible retirement at the end of the season. The defensive midfielder has won plenty of trophies in a career spanning 18 years, and has been praised by some of the top players in the world as the best, but most underappreciated footballer.
“Good luck to him in his new career, whatever it is. He was a fantastic partner, the best midfield player I have played with in my career,” former Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard said to the club’s official website. “And more than that a great man so I wish him success for the future. He always offered advice and set a standard with the way he played. He helped me greatly in my career.”
Makelele helped Chelsea to two Premier League titles under Jose Mourinho, with his departure signalling the end to The Blues’ domestic dominance as well.
