Aston Villa striker John Carew reveals he will be cheering on England in the World Cup in the summer. With his native Norway having failed to qualify, his allegiance is now firmly with the country where he has spent the last three-and-a-half seasons. The towering forward also believes the flying Wayne Rooney will be the man to watch in the tournament.

Because Norway are out and I play in England – with the possibility of several Villa players involved – I will obviously want them to do well in the tournament. I want them to win,” Carew said in the club’s official website. The striker also believes Manchester United’s on fire goal scorer will be the main spectacle, saying, “But I believe the player of the tournament will be Rooney – especially the way he is playing at the moment.”

The 30-year-old Carew is returning to full fitness again for Villa, after a lengthy lay off due to injury.
