Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper Petr Cech, has been handed the great honour of winning his third Czech Player of the Year award. The shot-stopper, currently out injured with a calf problem, won the award in 2005 as well as in 2008, proving that his abilities in goal are extraordinary.
“When you are voted the best player of the year in your country it is of course a great personal achievement every time,” Cech told the club’s official website. “We still have quality players and in 2009 Milan Baros was the top goal scorer in the Turkish league and normally when the strikers have done well, they are voted ahead of the goalkeepers. It says my performances are recognised as a very high standard so I am pleased to have won it once again.”
Chelsea will be hoping Cech recovers quickly from his calf setback, especially after back-up keeper Henrique Hilario was exposed in the loss to Manchester City.
