Leighton Baines revealed he is absolutely delighted with how his debut went in the friendly against Egypt. The Everton left-back unexpectedly completed the whole 90 minutes, with many, including the defender, under the impression that Aston Villa’s Stephen Warnock would be introduced at the half.

"I’m absolutely buzzing," said Baines afterwards to the club’s official website. "I only found out I was in the team just before we left the hotel to come to Wembley. I wanted to start, because I wanted to be on the pitch for the national anthem and feel a part of it. But to play the full game was totally unexpected and that’s why I’m just over the moon. It’s got to be the proudest moment of my career."

Baines, Everton’s assist leader, has been enjoying a standout season this year, proving to be a magnificent crosser of the ball.
