England captain for the night Steven Gerrard, believes the side’s come from behind victory against Africa Cup of Nations champions Egypt, proves the Three Lions have matured since their exit in the 2006 World Cup.
“I think there’s more of a mental toughness about this team than the one that went to Germany four years ago. The team has improved since then definitely, players have matured, improved and we’re at our peak,” Gerrard said in Fifa.com “We’re enjoying playing together and we’ve got a manager who demands that we work hard for each other and that we do the right things.”
With newly appointed skipper Rio Ferdinand out through injury, Gerrard was named captain for the friendly match at Wembley.
