Tottenham Hotspur striker Peter Crouch came off the bench to bag a brace for England last night, succeeding in convincing coach Fabio Capello to consider him, good as in the World Cup squad.

"Peter Crouch is a big option for me because sometimes you can play long ball," Capello said. "But today we did not play long ball. He played well with some good touches. I am happy he had a lot of chances but I have to pick a lot of players. Crouch is one of the players.

After his impressive brace, the gangly striker has now chalked up an impressive 20 goals in 37 appearances for his country. Although Crouch has managed just ten goals for Tottenham this season, his unique physical presence gives the Italian manager’s side a different dimension when needed.
