Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has discussed his views on the thin line that separates defenders and attackers these days with his club’s official website, pointing out that players such as team-mates Ashley Cole and Branislav Ivanovic are as much attacking threats as they are stout defenders. The Serbian right-back was singled out for particular praise by the ten-year Premier League veteran.

“I think Ivanovic for us is fantastic,” he says. “If I am going to give someone a mention I am going to give it to Iva. He is going to be a great player for Chelsea. He is a great player for Chelsea,” Cole corrects himself. “I think he has been our player of the year to be honest.”

Cole has been hampered by fitness issues in the last couple of seasons, leaving Chelsea without his creative touches and crafty vision.
