Manchester United’s Paul Scholes, who has just recently notched his 100th goal for the Red Devils, may be reaching the twilight of his career, but the 35-year-old is still garnering plenty of praise, particularly from the club’s weekend stand-in skipper, Rio Ferdinand.
“He’s a true professional and a great footballer and someone who has been a pleasure to play alongside. We’re delighted he’s got us the winner and it’s great for him to have got 100 league goals,” Ferdinand said on MUTV. “He’s not really anyone who shouts or makes a noise if he scores a goal or does something out of ordinary that no-one else can do, which he often does. But just that speaks volumes for the kind of professional he is."
Scholes hasn’t been used in the same effect and consistency that he might’ve been use to in the past, but his six goals scored already this season is his best tally since the 2004/05 campaign – signs that the midfield maestro still has what it takes to keep competing at the highest level.
