Lyon surprisingly dumped out Real Madrid from the Champions League last night, battling back from an early Cristiano Ronaldo goal to draw the Spanish giants and progress to the quarterfinals 2-1 on aggregate. The French side’s manager Claude Puel, hailed the impact of his substitutes at the Santiago Bernabeu, after a string of players were forced out due to injury.

The substitutes were key, they did a fine job. We changed the system and totally reshuffled the team,” Puel said to UEFA.com. “Mire [Pjanić] moved up to support Lisandro and that made us more fluid. On top of that, he scored the goal.”

Lyon effectively ends Real Madrid’s chances of achieving their dream to be play in the Champions League final on their home ground.
