Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has conceded that first-choice centre-back William Gallas will have to be content to remain on the sidelines for awhile longer after the player suffered a setback on his recovery from a calf injury in training. The club’s former captain looked set to return earlier in the week, but will now have to start the recovery process all over again.
“The scan showed nothing major, but every time he starts to push a little bit he falls back so it has not completely healed,” said Wenger on the club’s official website. “Calves sometimes are a mystery. It came back twice. It’s that the injury is much worse, it’s that we have to be cautious with it. We pushed him a bit and he was in a hurry. But we have to be cautious this time, to take a little bit more time than we would do.”
Although Gallas is certain to be sidelined for his club, Wenger insists France should not be worried about the defender’s “minor” injury.
