Liverpool’s disastrous season continues to turn for the worse as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Lille in the first leg of their Europa League encounter, endangering their chances of their only realistic shot of silverware this season. This disappointing result comes only a few days after losing with the same score line to Wigan.
"I have confidence we can beat anyone on a good day at Anfield. I would be worried today if the players hadn’t worked as hard as they have. The fans will play a part, they will push and will be behind the team," Benitez said on the club’s official website. "Lille are a good side, with good players and they are dangerous. We will play a difficult game at Anfield but have confidence we can beat them."
The Reds will be hoping to put in a good performance against rock-bottom club Portsmouth on Monday, before attempting to reverse their deficit to Lille at Anfield.
