Marseille dramatically found an equaliser at the death against Benfica last night, ensuring that they take the slight advantage going into the second leg with a vital away goal. The French side looked certain to be returning from their visit to Portugal empty-handed, but the reborn Hatem Ben Arfa came off the bench to find the back of the net.
“All the better for us that we were able to equalise,” Ben Arfa said to UEFA.com. “It’s not a victory but it feels almost like a victory, because we got that away goal and we know how difficult that makes life for our opponents. Now it’s up to us to finish the job at home and qualify."
Ben Arfa has been notorious in the past for his disciplinary problems, causing many to label him a waste of phenomenal talent. The young Frenchman has recently been turning his career around however, and was recalled to the France squad to reward his renewed disposition.
